WHAT IS DEAFINITELY DOPE?

Matthew Maxey, founder of DEAFinitely Dope, hails from Atlanta, GA. As a hard of hearing individual, Maxey seeks to unite the hearing and Deaf community through music and sign language, breaking barriers in the process. His personal journey to find where he fits in best as a hard of hearing individual led to creating an outlet where others experiencing the same struggle to find their identity could find peace, unity, and enjoyment through DEAFinitelyDope.

I’d like to make hip-hop and R&B, more versatile in regards to the kind of music people ask us to perform. Changing the way you experience hip-hop and R&B through sign language.

In addition to Maxey’s passion for music, Maxey is very determined to make a change in society with their view of the deaf culture and sign language. He is involved with co-operating a championship deaf basketball team, Southeast Hoopstars that he founded along with another deaf individual. He travels to speak to multiple ASL classes at high schools and universities to explain the importance of sign language as well as inspiring people to be unique and stay positive in their journey to learn sign language. He believes that sign language can become easily accessible for all ages through music and works diligently to provide different genres of music in sign in hopes that at the end of the day, the world can feel like they too, are DEAFinitely Dope!
